there is a lot to do in group like going to the swimming pool or to the Hamam or to the souk...but you can also do things alone like have a siesta or go to the internet café. In the weekends ASTVS will organise weekend excursions to see the desert of Merzouga, the high gorges of Todgha and Dades.

-I don’t speak Arabic is it a problem for communication with kids?
Kids in Morocco know some French already but almost no English before the age of 13, from the previous experiences, volunteers never found communication problem to explain a game or a task, one of the Moroccan volunteers will be in every group to help in translating for the kids, and mostly kids understand games just by giving the first example.

Volunteers from Europe and North America don’t need a visa but just a passport to enter Morocco, however others from some other countries might need a Visa, please call the Moroccan embassy in your country to find out.

Do i need a vaccination for Morocco?

How can i travel to the camp site?
After confirming your participation with ASTVS, you will be given detailed information about how to travel to the camp site alone, however, there will be a pick up in the airport of Casablanca the day before the 1st day of the project. The pick up is available this whole day, until 17.00. As example: when your project starts on the 1st of July, the pick up will be served on the 30th June from the earliest time in the morning until 17.00 in Casablanca Airport.

Is it safe to travel alone in Morocco?
Travelling in Morocco is safe and practical; you can easily take small taxies (cheap) to go from 2 places in the city and busses or big taxies between 2 cities. Descriptions of how to travel to our project site will be provided after you have confirmed your participation.

How flexible is the participation dates?
For the painting project and the activities with kids the participation period is flexible. However for the teaching project more than 3 days delay or early departure is not permitted. You will have to inform us about your available dates and see if you can join.

Do we travel in weekends?
In the weekends ASTVS will organise weekend excursions to see the desert of Merzouga, the high gorges of Todgha and Dades if your project is in the region of Errachidia, Ouarzazate . If your project is not in Errachidia or Ouarzazate you will travel to the closest attraction.

Money/fees:
Why the participation fees?
ASTVS doesn’t receive any money or aid from any organization nor from the government. The organization survives with the participation fees of volunteers. ASTVS has many expenses for the organization of work camps. Among the expenses there are advertising costs, administration costs, food, facilities for the accommodation, materials for work, contributions to the schools we use and many more. Without the contribution of volunteers our projects simply can’t be organized.

What is included and excluded in the participation fees?
Accommodation, food, introduction, work materials are included. Excluded are: costs of transportation to travel from the airport to the camp, excursion expenses, mineral water, your own needs.

Why do I have to pay half of the participation fees in advance?
There are 2 reasons why we ask participation fees in advance. First, because we need money in advance for advertising and installation of work camps. These are expenditures which already need to be covered before the start of the work camp. The second reason is to secure your participation placement. Not everybody that applies for the work camps actually comes. We need to know the exact number of volunteers to prepare a project.

Where can I get Moroccan Dirham’s?
The Moroccon currency is Dirham, 1 Euro = about 11 Dirham, 1 Dollar = about 7,5 Dirham, 1 Pound = about 15 Dirhams. You can use your bank pass in every cash machine in Morocco, as long as you have Maestro, Visa or Mastercard. However you can also change bills from your currency to Dirham’s in every bank in Morocco.
